Tucked deep in the heart of Uttarakhand’s Govind Wildlife Sanctuary, the Kedarkantha trek is a winter wonderland that has won the hearts of trekkers from across the country. Famous for its snow-covered trails, majestic 360° summit views, and beautiful campsites, this trek has rightly earned its spot as one of India’s most loved winter treks.
Whether you're a first-time hiker or an experienced mountaineer, Kedarkantha welcomes everyone, sharing stories of the Garhwal Himalayas and offering an unforgettable sunrise view.
My journey started from Sankri, a serene village nestled at 6,400 ft. From here, the trail winds through dense pine and oak forests, past frozen streams, and across clearings that open up to jaw-dropping views of snow-draped peaks like Swargarohini, Black Peak, and Bandarpoonch.
Trekking with Himalaya Shelter, the best trekking company in Uttarakhand, made this experience seamless and safe. From cozy tents to knowledgeable guides and wholesome food, their team ensures every detail is taken care of—so you can focus on the magic around you.
What truly sets Kedarkantha apart is the stunning campsites. Each one feels like a destination on its own:
The peace, the crackling campfires, and the warmth of fellow trekkers make these moments unforgettable.
The Kedarkantha summit day starts early—really early. You begin your ascent at 3 AM, headlamps lighting the snowy trail, as you make your way to the peak at 12,500 ft. And when you finally reach the top just as the sun rises, lighting up the Himalayas in gold—you feel on top of the world.
From the summit, you get a 360° view of over 13 Himalayan peaks—a sight that stops even the most seasoned trekkers in their tracks.
Avoid the monsoon season (July–August) due to slippery trails and heavy rain.
