There are treks that take you into forests, some that wind through meadows, and a rare few that let you walk on a ridgeline with mountains rising on both sides like ancient sentinels. The Phulara ridge trek is one such magical trail. Unlike any other in Uttarakhand, this trek offers a long, continuous walk along a high-altitude ridge, making you feel like you’re floating above the world.
This isn’t just a trek—it’s a Himalayan experience unlike any other.
The trek starts from Sankri, a peaceful village tucked in Uttarkashi’s pine-scented valley. Like many treks in this region, Himalaya Shelter, the best trekking company in Uttarakhand, organizes this trail with exceptional professionalism. Their experienced guides, warm hospitality, and love for the mountains turn this journey into something personal.
From Sankri, we drove to Taluka, and then trekked up to Pushtara, camping under the stars and the scent of rhododendrons. The first couple of days wind through dense oak forests, bubbling streams, and clearings where you might spot mountain deer or hear the calls of Himalayan Monals.
But nothing quite prepares you for Phulara ridge itself.
On Day 3, we reached Phulara ridge—and that’s when the world changed.
Imagine walking a narrow ridge with Swargarohini, Kedarkantha, Devkyara, and Bandarpoonch peaks lining the horizon. On either side, valleys drop steeply away, and all you can see is sky and snow-capped summits.
It’s not just a photo moment. It’s an emotional one. The sense of openness, clarity, and freedom you feel walking that ridgeline is indescribable.
The ridge stretches over 4 to 5 kilometers, giving you an extended time in this panoramic zone—unlike many treks where the viewpoint is a 10-minute stop. Here, the journey is the destination.
As we descended from the ridge, the trail opened into high-altitude meadows of Pushtara—lush, flower-strewn fields where we camped one last time before heading back to Sankri. The sunsets here turn everything golden, and the silence is deep enough to hear your own breath.
This trek combines the forest trails of Kedarkantha, the meadows of Dayara Bugyal, and a unique ridgeline experience that no other trek in Uttarakhand can match.
The best time for the Phulara ridge trek is from May to June and again from mid-September to early November.
This trek is not recommended during the monsoon as the trails become slippery and cloud cover hides the views.
