The Tarsar marsar lake trek is often described as Kashmir’s most enchanting trail, and rightly so. Unlike its cousin, the Kashmir Great Lakes Trek, this trail offers a more intimate experience with nature, taking you up close to the twin alpine lakes of Tarsar and Marsar—both stunningly beautiful and cloaked in local legends.

This 7-day journey transports you through lush green meadows, pine forests, shepherd hamlets, and flower-carpeted valleys, culminating in high-altitude lakes that shimmer under the Himalayan sky. The solitude, serenity, and surreal scenery make it one of India’s most soulful treks.

Tarsar Marsar Lake Trek – A Tryst with Kashmir’s Hidden Jewels

A Journey Through Wild Meadows and Twin Lakes

The trek begins from Aru village, a quaint settlement near Pahalgam. From here, the trail meanders along the Lidder River, gradually climbing through forests and Gujjar settlements to reach Lidderwat—your first campsite in a wide alpine valley.

As you ascend higher, the landscape turns magical. **Tarsar Lake,** at an altitude of 12,500 ft, is surrounded by mountains on three sides and can be viewed from multiple vantage points. A day later, you cross a high ridge to catch the first breathtaking glimpse of Marsar Lake, which stays partially hidden under clouds—mystical and elusive.
